X.Bustos supports the Launch of Catalan-Architects.com

launch-catalan-architects

Xavier Bustos, architect and Cities Connection Project co-director, supports the recent launch of Catalan-Architects, the seventeenth platform under the World-Architects umbrella.
It’s not a coincidence that the twenty catalan offices selected by CCP curators are present in the platform. Catalan-Architects recognizes the amazing quality of buildings and landscapes produced in the region anchored by Barcelona.

To parse just what it is that creates the distinctive architecture of Barcelona and the Catalan region, Xavier Bustos give his point of view in this article by discussing three areas—education, cultural initiatives, and awards—that intertwine to impact Barcelona’s admittedly distinctive architecture. In 3×3: Snapshots of Catalonian Architectural Production he presents three examples in each area to give readers a general idea of the field, while acknowledging the complexity of architectural production in the region.

The Cities Connection Project (CCP) aspires to annually connect European architecture that is committed to the current social reality, while breaking away from mass media.

As founders Xavier Bustos and Nicola Regusci said, the aim of Cities Connection Project is for each event to be the catalyst for an ongoing dialogue between architects from the selected cities. “We imagine a future with a wide European network of connections between professionals and institutions, a neuronal system capable of generating a critical and open-minded vision about the projection of our cities”, Bustos and Regusci acknowledge. Last year, Cities Connection Project connected Barcelona to the Swiss region of Ticino with the theme “Architecture and Territory”. This year it has been the turn of Geneva and future editions are already planned Berlin, Zurich and Brussels.

The Fundació Mies van der Rohe supports the Cities Connection Project

The Fundació Mies van der Rohe true to its commitment to architecture, society and culture supports the Cities Connection Project.

On 14th of November the Pavilion Mies van der Rohe will open the doors to receive the architects participating in the two exhibitions, _Import GENEVA and _Export BARCELONA, and the representatives from Barcelona’s City Council (Ajuntament de Barcelona). The event will be followed by the official Presentation of _Export BARCELONA taking place in February 2015.

As the Director of Fundació Mies van de Rohe, Giovanna Carnevali, said “This is a great opportunity for the Fundació to show its support for this project, launched and led by young architects from Barcelona, and to encourage them to continue this great adventure of connecting Barcelona with other European cities”.

The Fundació highlights that swiss architecture has a great reputation, thanks to its technical detail, the creativity of its practitioners and the influence of its schools. Therefore, Giovanna Carnevali has no doubt that Swiss architecture belongs within European culture, and as she told to CCP founders “we must not forget that architecture is a great ambassador of culture”.

Meeting between Swiss and Catalan architects

AAAB2_byn

Aside from the exhibition _Import GENEVA, the second day of the event, 14th of November is dedicated to generate synergies between Catalan architecture and Geneva.

Therefore during the day, the event will also present architectural tours, a meeting with professionals and a reception at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion for all architects participating in the two exhibitions.

For Cities Connection Project the meeting between Swiss and Catalan architects is a highlight of the program. For instance, can we talk about a Genevan or Catalan ‘collective housing’? What do they have in common?  What can Barcelona learn from Genevan architecture?

AAAB1_byn

The meeting will take place at Arts Santa Mònica Centre de la Creativitat at 12:00 h and will be a kind of an exchange of professional experiences to share ideas and make new connections. The architects will share experiences in different debates and the sponsors and agents involved in the Cities Connection Project will participate.
