The remodelling of Santa Coloma de Gramenet’s commercial centre is based on the renovation of the former Sagarra Market, which becomes the focal point for a general intervention on the entire neighbourhood, to boost commerce and offer more space for pedestrians. The renovation of the Market preserves a listed building, but at the same time updates it and provides the installations needed to adapt a facility that no longer met
commercial needs.
The layout of the centre’s roads brings together solutions and materials, and generates a space for connection and human activity that goes beyond mere transport.
The existing streets have a small cross-section. The solutions define the streets with the paving, lighting and street furniture. A study of different cross-sections helps to increase the quality and operation of the centre by improving mobility and accessibility, as well as services
and the sewerage system.
